Citrix XenDesktop 7.6 video highlights

Citrix

Citrix have released a small number of videos outlining the “new” features in the upcoming release of XenDesktop 7.6. Some of these features existed in previous versions of XenApp but have taken time to engineer into the FMA architecture.

The added features include the poplar PreLaunch where chosen applications can be started when a user authenticates and before launching any applications manually. Session linger is also showing its face again in XenDesktop 7.6 as is anonymous user access which is popular in the older XenApp world as a secure way to allow access to public kiosks.

A very welcome new feature is connection leasing which is the FMA’s replacement for the local host cache. the connection leasing feature caches applications launched by users in an XML file for a period of 14 days. This means if the SQL database becomes disconnected from the XenDesktop installation staff may still launch any applications that they have accessed within the last 14 days. This is a big improvement to the availability of the architecture but it still falls a little short if for example the database is disconnected on the company monthly expenses application day, still its better than nothing. 🙂
